Woman Who Killed Her Three Children Starves Herself To Death To Avoid Murder Trial

Canada – A mother accused of drowning and strangling her three young children two years ago has starved herself to death in prison before she could be tried for their murders.

Sonia Blanchette, 35, allegedly killed her daughters Anaïs, two, and Laurélie, five, as well as her son Loïc, who was four years old, in a bath tub in her apartment after losing custody of them.

They were found dead in Blanchette’s apartment in Drummondville, near Montreal, Quebec, in December 2012.

Blanchette was charged with first degree murder and has been awaiting trial for more than two years – but according to lawyers she decided to starve herself to death rather than face a jury. More

Man dies after three-day internet gaming binge

Taiwan – A Taiwanese man has died after a three-day gaming binge at an internet cafe in the island’s south, the second such case this year.

The 32-year-old, identified by his family name Hsieh, was found slumped in his chair in the cafe in Kaohsiung city.

Other patrons initially thought he was sleeping, but when an employee realised he was not breathing he was rushed to hospital, where he was pronounced dead, the Taipei Times reported.

Doctors confirmed he had suffered cardiac failure, ruling it a “sudden death” from prolonged computer gaming, the report said. More

Kentucky – Authorities in Kentucky are looking for an 18-year-old and his 13-year-old girlfriend, who are suspected of carrying out a string of burglaries and car thefts across the Southeast.

Dalton Hayes and Cheyenne Phillips were reported missing on Jan. 3. Authorities believe the couple stole a neighbor’s red Toyota pickup truck and fled the state.

WDRB reported that surveillance video located the pair in the truck outside a Wal-Mart in Manning, S.C. The couple were captured in surveillance footage entering the store, where investigators believe they passed a bad check.

Officers said the couple may now be traveling in a stolen 2001 silver Toyota Tundra with a certified firefighter license plate reading CF116I. More

CLEARWATER, Florida – Two new rugs featuring the Pinellas County (Fla.) Sheriff’s Office emblem sat at agency’s new administration building for a few months before anyone noticed one of them read “In dog we trust.”

Female High School Student Beat Male For Passing Gas, Say Cops

New York – Angered that a fellow pupil passed gas in her general direction, a New York City high school student allegedly clobbered the male victim in the head with a metal stool and repeatedly punched him in the face, according to police.

Joquasha Rosado, 17, was arrested last week following the bloody attack at South Richmond High School in Staten Island.

She was subsequently named in a criminal complaint charging her with felony assault, weapons possession, and harassment.

Rosado’s attack on the 15-year-old victim left the boy with “a bleeding gash that required eight staples,” reported Officer Jennifer Hadley. After hitting the victim with the metal stool, Rosado allegedly struck the pupil “about the head approximately ten to fifteen times with a closed fist.” More

Autistic Student Kicked Out Of College For Hugging, Kissing Stranger By Mistake

Texas – Brian Ferguson, 20, was attending special-needs classes at Navarro College’s Waxahachie campus when he thought he recognized a young woman in the hallway, said Ferguson’s mother, Staci Martin.

The woman, who has not been identified and could not be reached for comment, turned out to be a stranger.

“He gave her a hug and kissed her on the top of her head,” Martin said. “He’s 6’5″, so when he gives hugs, he’ll give you a big hug and kiss you right here on the top of your scalp.”

The school called it an assault, she said. ”And then they labeled it ‘sexual assault’ because of the kissing,” Martin said. “They said a kiss is considered an assault.” More
