Woman Wins Lawsuit, Gauze Left Inside Body


FORT LAUDERDALE FL - When a woman went into a Broward hospital to give birth to her child, she not only left with her baby, but also with a foot-long piece of gauze cloth inside her. A Broward County jury on Tuesday awarded her more than $2.4-million in a malpractice suit, which included punitive damages, claiming she is permanently disabled. Doctors at Memorial Hospital West performed a Caesarean section on Karlene Chambers on September 11, 2001, the day the Twin Towers in New York City were attacked by terrorists. The suit claimed that two weeks later, the first-grade school teacher was readmitted to another hospital and placed in intensive care for growing abdominal pains.
