US eases visa rules for HIV-positive visitors


Washington - US immigration officials on Monday announced moves to ease and speed up visa-processing for HIV-positive visitors to the United States, months after a 21-year entry ban on people with the virus was lifted. Under the new rules, US consular offices overseas will have the authority to grant temporary, non-immigrant visas to HIV-positive applicants who meet "all of the other normal criteria for the granting of a US visa," the Department of Homeland Security (DHS) said in a statement. Man recovering after being shot during Civil War filming


ISLE OF WIGHT - A local Civil War re-enactor is recovering after apparently being shot while participating in a scene for a Civil War documentary in Isle of Wight County over the weekend. Barack Obama, and the Democratic National Committee filed a joint motion in federal court Wednesday to dismiss a lawsuit challenging the Illinois senator to prove he's a citizen of the United States. On Aug. 21, four days before the Democratic National Convention, Lafayette Hill attorney Philip Berg filed suit in Philadelphia seeking to remove the Democratic candidate from the November ballot claiming he was born in Kenya and not in America. Berg asked the court for a temporary restraining order "prohibiting Obama from being formally confirmed as the Democratic Party nominee for president," according to court papers. Man Accuses Doctor of Stapling Buttocks Shut


Maryland - Arguments began Monday in a federal lawsuit alleging that a Maryland doctor stapled a man's rectum shut during an operation, rendering him unable to move his bowels for 17 days, the Baltimore Examiner reported.
Ronald Watkins, 64, of West Virginia, has accused Dr. Manuel Casiano, a doctor in Frederick County, Maryland for botching a September 2004 surgery that left him with permanent bowel problems, according to the report.

HAMILTON, Ohio - An eighth grade boy from Hamilton, Ohio, is fighting a school ban over wearing makeup to class.

Mom Gets Five Years - Unlawful lesbian sex with a minor, cocaine possession and weapons charges


Bexley - A judge sentenced a Bexley woman who admitted having sex with a friend of her teenage daughter to five years in prison. Last month, Becky Jo Tatum, 42, pleaded guilty to unlawful sex with a minor, cocaine possession and weapons charges.
