Donkey Races held for 39 years - No more - Someone might sue

CARDIFF, Wales -- Citing safety risks, lawyers and insurance carriers have reined in a traditional children's donkey race at a North Wales resort this weekend. "We asked insurers if they could give us cover for kids racing on donkeys, but they wouldn't touch it," Llandudno Rugby Club Chairman Robin Holden told The Daily Mail. "They said they could insure us if the donkeys were walking, not racing." Holden said he sought legal advice regarding whether parents could sign a waiver, but was told by a lawyer parents couldn't sign away their children's rights. "He also said that, if they were injured, the child could wait and take action as soon as they were of legal age," Holden added. Children were allowed to ride on donkeys, so long as the animals walked and the wee ones held a parent's hand. Event organizer Brian Bertola said he was sorry children must miss out because some people are so quick to sue. "Children have been doing this for 39 years, and we have never had a problem; it is ridiculous," he said. "Sadly, this is the age we live in. Even on the slightest incident, people will try and claim." Magazinelane.com
