Sale Lake City UT - A would-be rapist broke into a Cedar City home and used a knife to detain a woman for an hour before she was able to call for help. Police say the incident began about 3 a.m. Sunday in Cedar City. An 18-year-old intoxicated man entered a stranger's home with the intent of finding someone with whom to have sex, said Sgt. Jerry Womack. The suspect took a knife from the kitchen and held it to the neck of a 23-year-old woman inside, Womack said. For about the next hour, the woman tried to dissuade the suspect from raping her. She talked to him about religion, then said she was ill and her husband would be home soon. Finally, when the suspect let the woman go to the bathroom, she was able to call 911 and the would-be rapist left. The woman recognized the man from the neighborhood and police found him at his apartment later that morning. Today he was in the Iron County jail on suspicion of aggravated sexual assault, aggravated burglary, kidnapping and theft and was being held on $50,000 cash-only bail.
