Victim disarms sissy robbers with gas nozzle

NY - A Brentwood gas station attendant fended off an armed assailant early Friday with his gas pump nozzle, police said. "He wasn't scared," a co-worker said. "He took it personal. He was angry."
The attendant, Ali, a 57-year-old Turkish immigrant, speaks very little English, according to Oken, 29, a Turkish co-worker. Neither wanted to give their full names for publication. Oken said Ali fully understood what was happening when a man walked up to him about 2:30 a.m. Friday at the Delta gas station on Islip Avenue and pointed a gun at him. Oken was not there at that time, but said Ali later told him that Ali did not understand much of what the gunman was saying, but he understood the word "money" which the assailant kept repeating. Instead of giving him any of the station's cash, Ali took a swing at the gunman with the nozzle, and then started jabbing at him with it, Oken said. The gunman did not fire his weapon, Oken said, and called to an accomplice who was standing near the station's mini-mart entrance. The two men then fled on foot. Full Story MagazineLane.com
