VA - Daniel Farmer, 36, of Floyd, Virginia, a former media specialist at Floyd Elementary School and an assistant girl’s softball coach at Floyd County High School has pleaded guilty to misdemeanor sexual battery of a 15-year-old girl. Farmer was arrested in September 2006, and has been on $5,000 bond since that time. He resigned from both school positions following his arrest. Farmer was originally charged with oral sodomy and contributing to the delinquency of a minor for the sexual abuse of the girl who was reportedly a member of the girls softball team. In exchange for Farmer’s plea to misdemeanor sexual battery, prosecutors dropped the sodomy and contributing charges. Farmer won’t serve any jail time. He received a suspended one-year jail sentence, two years probation, he must complete 400 hours of community service while on probation and will be required to register as a sex offender.
