BERKELEY CA - Authorities erected an 8-foot chain-link fence to separate tree-sitting protesters occupying a University of California oak grove from more than 72,000 football fans expected to descend on campus Saturday.
An Alameda County judge denied a motion Thursday by protesters, who claimed the fence violated a court order earlier this year banning any development at the site.
Activists strummed guitars, sang "We Shall Overcome" and scuffled with police officers as workers erected the fence a day earlier.
