MUNCIE - Prosecutors are investigating whether a phony obituary was planted in a Muncie newspaper to keep an admitted forger out of prison. The obituary reporting the supposed death and cremation of Shawnda K. Hatfield was faxed to Delaware Circuit Court Judge Robert Barnet Jr., who postponed a sentencing hearing set for Aug. 30. But Hatfield, 41, was later found at her home in nearby Dunkirk and arrested by a bail bondsman after rumors began circulating that she was alive. Barnet sentenced her to four years in prison Thursday for altering a check drawn on the account of White Feather Farms, where she formerly worked.
