MELVILLE, New York - Granted, a school cafeteria packed with 9-, 10- and 11-year-olds gets its share of chatter. Still, some Rocky Point parents think Joseph A. Edgar Intermediate School has gone overboard in trying to shush children during lunch with a traffic light-like signal that switches from green to yellow to red as the decibels rise. Students have been warned they could lose recess time if the light turns red.
