Stealing From God - Century-old Galveston statue stolen from Bishop's Palace


GALVESTON, Texas - A 150-pound statue of a griffin, which has stood guard in front of the historic Bishop's Palace here for more than a century, has been reported stolen, Galveston police said today.
The white griffin, made of zinc and valued at $3,500, is one of a pair on pedestals in front of the opulent 1892 residence that once housed the resident Catholic Bishop on Broadway at Avenue J.
