Mama makes bail for son - Hammer assault suspect's $100K cash bail may be forfeited

PORTSMOUTH — A city man on bail for two felony charges alleging he twice hit a victim in the head with hammer should forfeit his $100,000 cash bail because he was summonsed for drug possession Friday night, say police. According to a motion filed by police prosecutor Corey MacDonald, Maxwell Rome, 20, of Ocean Road, was summonsed by Mass. state police Trooper Orlando Tirella in lieu of arrest on August 22 at 10 p.m. for possession of a class B substance, OxyContin. The arrest was made in Boxford, Mass. and Rome was free on $100,000 cash bail at the time, posted by his mother in Portsmouth District Court by a check dated July 29. At a 2:30 p.m. hearing today, MacDonald is expected to ask a judge to revoke that bail because Rome violated bail conditions by not remaining arrest-free, by possessing drugs and for traveling outside the state of New Hampshire.
