Starbucks offers a free cup of coffee to customers who vote - Is illegal


SACRAMENTO, California - It's quite possible 80 percent of registered voters could cast ballots in California on November 4, according to Kim Alexander, of the non-partisan California Voter Foundation -- and that's a lot of free coffee Starbucks would be giving away to voters. But guess what, that election day freebie doesn't appear to be legal. If you're tempted to vote because of some of the freebies being offered, such as a free cup of Starbucks coffee, Alexander said offering incentives to vote is actually against state and federal law.
