Hospital crippled by pregnant midwives


LONDON - There are so many midwives on maternity leave in Britain some pregnant women have to drive more than 20 miles to give birth. Eastbourne Hospital in East Sussex has had to close its maternity ward to new admissions because of a national shortage of at least 3,000 midwives, The Daily Mail said Wednesday.
