Man faces life in prison with no parole for shooting dog


Oregon - A Clark County man pleaded not guilty today in the shooting death Tuesday of a 5-year-old Vancouver police dog. Ronald J. Chenette, 38, was charged in Clark County Superior Court in Vancouver with one count each of harming a police dog with a firearm and unlawful possession of a firearm. Judge Roger A. Bennett set Chenette's trial for Dec. 17. Chenette, a transient who has an extensive criminal history, is being held without bail after being arrested Tuesday when a second police dog found him in a wooded area of Brush Prairie, south of Battle Ground.
