Detroit - A price war between two gas station owners in Detroit apparently was the motivation behind a shooting that left one man dead this morning.
Police said that when the owner of the Marathon station in the 7100 block of Fort near Springwells dropped his price of unleaded regular gasoline to $2.93 a gallon, the owner of a BP station -- selling unleaded for $2.96 -- crossed the street to confront him.
Police said the two men began a fistfight, which escalated. The Marathon owner, a man identified only as being in his 50s, drew a handgun and fired three to four shots, fatally striking the BP owner at least once in the head.
