Intoxicated man arrested after arriving at trial to fight $72 ticket


PORTSMOUTH — A Hanover Street man was arrested Tuesday morning for being almost three times the legal limit for intoxication when he appeared in the District Court to fight a $72 traffic ticket. Richard Erickson, 43, of 339 Hanover St., was scheduled for an April 29 trial to dispute a police complaint alleging that on August 9, 2004, he failed to yield to Islington Street traffic while driving his 1992 Honda. When his case was called at 9 a.m., prosecutor Corey MacDonald told the court three witnesses alleged Erickson "reeked" of alcohol and appeared impaired. More...
