UK - A headteacher has apologised after a seven-year-old boy was shut in a room the size of a cupboard with no inner door handle as punishment for bad behaviour. Stephanie Tate admitted using the 'time out room' as a method of controlling unruly pupils and added it had been used to control the boy and other pupils on previous occasions. She said the room at Avenue Primary School in Clarendon Park, Leicester, was used 'only for a few minutes' until the child had calmed down and apologised for not telling parents about its use earlier.
