Son put mom's body in freezer - Cashes her Social Security checks


COOKS FALLS — Police on Wednesday found the body of a roughly 100-year-old woman inside a freezer at a home in Cooks Falls, a hamlet in Delaware County just beyond Roscoe, state police said. The body of Herta Auslander was found Wednesday at 8:30 a.m. Police have been unable to determine a cause of death; they must wait for the body to thaw out before performing an autopsy, State Police Senior Inv. Les Hyman said. It’s unclear whether foul play was involved. Police are searching for Auslander’s son, Roland J. Auslander, 69, who was allegedly collecting his mother’s social security checks and cashing them while she was in the freezer. More...
